In a rare and emotional outburst, Brenda Biya, daughter of Cameroon’s long-serving President Paul Biya, has publicly urged her 93-year-old father to relinquish power after more than four decades in office.
Brenda, 28, poured out her frustrations in a heartfelt statement that has now set Cameroonian political and social circles ablaze. Speaking directly to her father, she recalled how her childhood admiration has faded into disappointment.
“Daddy, you are 93 years old and became President at the age of 49. As a child, I grew up seeing you as strong, but as I grew older, I began to see your frailty, a ceremonial president, seemingly controlled by a French man who isn’t even as old as you were when you took office,” she said.
The President’s daughter did not shy away from revealing the personal toll her father’s long grip on power has had on her.
“I am 28 years old, and I feel like the most embarrassed ‘rich child.’ It stings even more when people call me ‘the President’s daughter.’ How do I find glory in a name that has brought shame to my ego?”
Her plea, directed at the man who has led Cameroon since 1982, carried a final note of urgency and patriotic appeal: “Dad, write your name in gold and give the people of Cameroon a breath of fresh air. Remember, you always told me to honor home before impressing the world.”
President Paul Biya, who has ruled Cameroon for 43 consecutive years, is Africa’s second-longest serving leader. His potential bid for another term in 2025 has sparked tension both within the country and abroad.
Brenda’s public intervention adds an extraordinary twist — not from political opponents or critics, but from within the President’s own household.
It’s good to leave honourably after all these years Baba Biya, listen to your daughter pls
