From Activism to Leadership: Lawrence Steven’s OSOPADEC Appointment Sparks Hope for Youth Inclusion

The immediate appointment of Comrade Lawrence Tibi-ebi Steven (A.k.a- Kpoko) as a part-time Board Member of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) has been met with widespread applause, particularly from youth and grassroots leaders across the state’s oil-rich communities.

Comrade Steven, a political scientist, respected youth advocate from the ancient Akpata Community in Ukparama Ward ll, Ese-Odo Local Government Area, is among those approved by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, in a major shake-up of the OSOPADEC board aimed at injecting fresh energy and inclusive leadership into the commission.

In a solidarity message made available to the press, Comrade. Utanghan Ebikontei, Publicity Secretary of the Arogbo Ijaw Ibe Youth Council, and leader of the party from the ruling All progressive Congress (APC) in his Ward, hailed the appointment as a long-overdue recognition of relentless activism and the push for youth inclusiveness in governance.”

“This appointment is not just a political milestone; it is a proof of Comrade Steven’s consistent agitations for justice, fairness, and youth empowerment in our political landscape,” Ebikontei stated.

Describing Comrade Steven as a brother, friend, and his roommate during their student days, Ebikontei emphasized the depth of character, clarity of thought, and unwavering dedication that the new appointee brings to the board.

I have no doubt that he will represent us with eloquence, integrity, and a deep understanding of the challenges facing our people. His presence on the OSOPADEC board is a strategic win for the Ijaw nation and the entire Ese-Odo Local Government Area,” he added.

The statement further praised Governor Aiyedatiwa for making a bold and progressive choice, noting that the appointment of credible and competent individuals like Comrade Steven reflects the administration’s commitment to impactful governance under the OUR EASE Agenda.

The youth council concluded its message with a call for full support for the new board and urged Comrade Steven to remain focused, fearless, and committed to policies that will enhance development in oil-producing communities.
