Renaissance, the independent oil firm that recently acquired Shell’s onshore assets in Nigeria, has confirmed an oil spill on its Okordia-Rumuekpe pipeline near the Oshika community. According to a company spokesperson, the spill was triggered by an unauthorized connection. In response, the pipeline has been shut down to limit environmental harm.
Initially, spokesperson Michael Adande had told Channels Television that there were no new spills affecting the Trans Niger Pipeline, stating it was still in operation.

However, the company has since acknowledged the latest incident and reported it to regulatory authorities. A joint investigation involving the government and local stakeholders is underway to assess the cause and impact.
This marks the second spill this month on the Okordia-Rumuekpe line and the third across Renaissance’s operations.
Just last Friday, the company suspended output on another pipeline linked to the Trans Niger system after a separate operational issue.
