The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that results for 379,000 candidates who participated in the recently rescheduled Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will be released on Wednesday.
The supplementary exams, held from Friday to Monday, were organized in response to significant complaints over technical failures and human errors during the initial UTME. These issues, which particularly affected candidates in Lagos and the South-East, prompted JAMB to offer a makeup exam. The board acknowledged the shortcomings in its system, with its Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, emotionally accepting responsibility and assuring affected students that corrective measures would be taken.

Out of the 1,955,069 candidates who took the original exam, over 1.5 million scored below 200 out of a total 400 marks, raising concerns about the exam’s reliability and fairness.
JAMB spokesperson Dr. Fabian Benjamin confirmed on Monday that the resit results would be published on Wednesday. Prof. Oloyede had earlier noted that 379,997 candidates were involved in the rescheduled exam—206,610 from 65 centres in Lagos and 173,387 from 92 centres across the South-East. He described the disruptions as deliberate sabotage, adding that candidates were notified of the resit through SMS starting last Thursday.
Analysis of the results from the main UTME shows that only 4,756 candidates (0.24%) scored 320 and above, while 7,658 (0.39%) scored between 300 and 319—totaling 12,414 candidates (0.63%) who scored 300 or more.
A further breakdown shows:
* 73,441 candidates (3.76%) scored between 250–299
* 334,560 (17.11%) scored between 200–249
* 983,187 (50.29%) scored between 160–199
* 488,197 (24.97%) scored between 140–159

These figures have sparked debate about the effectiveness of the exam system and the need for broader reforms.
