Abuja, Nigeria In a decisive move to silence internal rumblings and reinforce party unity, governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and members of the National Working Committee (NWC) have reaffirmed Arch. Setonji Koshoedo’s position as the Acting National Secretary of the party.

Rising from a high-stakes meeting held Sunday night, May 11, 2025, at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, the party’s top brass unanimously agreed that Koshoedo’s appointment is not up for further debate, effectively shutting the door on attempts to reopen the matter.

“This issue is settled,” one senior party source said after the meeting, echoing the mood in the room. The decision aligns with the earlier recommendation made in Ibadan by the PDP Governors’ Forum and ratified by the NWC on April 29, 2025.

Koshoedo, who was directed by the NWC to step in following the powers vested in it by Section 36(2) of the PDP Constitution, has been steering the affairs of the secretariat amid a delicate post-Supreme Court political atmosphere.

The NWC’s directive, reinforced by the broader stakeholders’ consensus, is seen as a strategic move to stabilize the party ahead of critical milestones — including the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on May 27 and the National Convention scheduled for August 2025.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has also formally recognized Koshoedo’s position, solidifying his authority in accordance with the Electoral Act.

Koshoedo has since hit the ground running, reportedly overhauling the party secretariat’s operational structure and security ahead of the NEC meeting. His efforts are seen by insiders as part of a broader plan to reenergize the PDP’s internal machinery ahead of major political battles.

With this latest endorsement, the PDP appears to be sending a strong message of internal cohesion and forward momentum. As one stakeholder at the meeting put it bluntly, “There is no vacancy. Koshoedo remains our Acting National Secretary. That’s the final word.”
