A renowned Niger Delta activist and National Coordinator of the Ijaw Monitoring Group, Comrade Joseph Evah, has vehemently blasted critics of elder statesman, Late Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark over his recent personal and social decisions, describing the attacks as “misguided and ignorantly irresponsible.”
In a strongly worded statement posted via his official Facebook page, Super Comrade Evah drew comparisons between Chief Clark and other national figures to defend the elder statesman’s rights and achievements. His words read thus:
“If General T.Y. Danjuma, a billionaire and owner of South Atlantic Petroleum Company—who doesn’t even know the colour of crude—could publicly declare he did not know what to do with his oil wealth, then Chief E.K. Clark deserves to own more than 10 universities in Nigeria,” Evah asserted.
Continuing, he rebuffed those questioning Chief Clark’s decision to remarry in his old age, citing historical precedents: “If Odumegwu Ojukwu, the former Biafran leader, could marry the most beautiful girl (Bianca) in Igboland in his old age, what is wrong with Chief E.K. Clark marrying a new wife?”
Reflecting on the legacy of the Clark family, Evah recounted his regular invitation to a select circle of Niger Delta intellectuals and national leaders comprising three iconic brothers: Chief E.K. Clark—described as the “supreme leader of the Niger Delta region,” Ambassador B.A. Clark—one of Nigeria’s post-independence first-generation diplomats and former Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and Professor J.P. Clark—Nigeria’s first professor of English and a revered literary icon.
“These supernatural beings, who can be rightly argued as academic deities from one mother, are very rare in African settings,” Evah wrote with reverence.
The post, now generating reactions across political and social circles, underscores Joseph Evah’s continued defense of Niger Delta heritage and respected personalities from the region.
