MAJOR SHAKE-UP LOOMS AS TINUBU, APC PLAN RESTRUCTURING OF NWC, PRESIDENCY
Barring any last-minute change, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are set to carry out a major restructuring of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and review key arrangements within the Presidency.
Sources familiar with the development disclosed that, aside from the positions of National Chairman and Vice Chairman, other offices in the APC NWC are being considered for rotation among the six geopolitical zones to promote broader representation and balance.
Party insiders said the move is aimed at accommodating the interests of recently defected governors and strengthening internal cohesion ahead of the party’s forthcoming congresses and national convention.
It was also gathered that despite recent public assurances by the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, both the party and the Presidency are reviewing aspects of the presidential ticket structure and the information management framework at the Presidential Villa. The review is reportedly part of wider efforts to reposition the administration in line with emerging political realities.
Meanwhile, the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), chaired by Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has expressed readiness to work closely with the APC national leadership to ensure responsible communication, collective discipline, and stronger public confidence in the party’s democratic processes.
In a communiqué issued after its extraordinary meeting, the PGF reaffirmed its commitment to deepening internal democracy, strengthening party structures, and advancing reforms that promote transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness across all levels of the federation.
The forum also reviewed and endorsed the timetable and operational framework for the upcoming Ward, Local Government, State, Zonal Congresses and the National Convention, earlier approved by the party’s National Executive Committee.
Governors emphasised the need for transparent and coordinated financial management in the conduct of congresses and conventions, noting that fairness and accountability must apply across all states, including those not governed by the APC. They also announced plans for strategic engagements and state visits, beginning with Taraba State, to reinforce grassroots structures and party unity.
However, further checks revealed that discussions on swapping NWC positions across geopolitical zones have been deferred pending President Tinubu’s return from his official visit to Türkiye.
A member of the APC NWC, who spoke anonymously, said zoning adjustments were left for the President’s final input. The source added that the party is considering the possibility of the vice-presidential slot moving to the North-West, while the position of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) may shift to the North-East.
According to the source, President Tinubu’s return will determine how positions are redistributed between the North and South as the party seeks to harmonise leadership arrangements with recently defected governors and maintain internal stability.
