The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Dr. Deji Adeleke, the brother of Governor Ademola Adeleke and father of Nigerian music star Davido, of contract racketeering and mismanagement of public funds.
The allegations were contained in a statement signed by the party’s Director of Media & Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, on Tuesday.
According to the APC, Dr. Adeleke was allegedly awarded a borehole project in selected wards across Osun State at a cost of N14 million per project, many of which were reportedly never executed. The party compared this to similar borehole projects constructed during the administration of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, which were allegedly completed for less than N2 million each, including full ancillary facilities.
Furthermore, the APC accused Dr. Adeleke of operating as the “unofficial Governor-General” of Osun State, alleging that he wields significant influence over the state’s affairs. The party also claimed that Governor Adeleke’s elder sister, Mrs. Dupe Adeleke-Sanni, functions as the “Governor-in-Charge of Administration,” while Governor Ademola Adeleke has been reduced to a mere figurehead, described as the “Governor-in-Charge of Entertainment.”
The APC has called for an immediate investigation into the alleged contract racketeering and urged relevant anti-corruption agencies to probe the borehole projects and other contracts awarded under the current administration.
In part, the statement read:
“Dr. Deji Adeleke has been entangled in this web of contract racketeering as his name has surfaced severally in the controversial borehole projects allegedly installed in selected wards in the state. He was alleged to have secured a borehole project for N14 million, many of which were never built. Similar borehole projects, but with all the ancillary facilities, were built for less than N2 million each during the administration of Oyetola.”
The statement further alleged:
“It is not a gainsaying that Dr. Deji Adeleke has been operating behind the scenes as the unofficial Governor-General of the state; Mrs. Dupe Adeleke-Sanni has secured the role of the Governor-in-Charge of Administration for herself, while the Governor who was elected has been titular, playing the role of a Governor-in-Charge of Entertainment to the consternation of right-thinking members of society.”
The Osun APC’s allegations have stirred political controversy, with calls for accountability and transparency in the state’s governance. As of the time of filing this report, neither Dr. Deji Adeleke nor Governor Ademola Adeleke has responded to the claims.
