This decision followed a review of the initial plan by the previous administration to upgrade the institution to a University of Management Science and Technology.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, emphasised that the institution would serve as a model for the state’s agriculture and food security revolution initiative.

“A committee will be set up by the government to work out the modalities for the implementation of the conversion,” Aiyedatiwa said.

He assured students and staff that the transition would not negatively affect them.

The statement further revealed that the governor approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the state government and a private investor for a N15bn youth-focused agriculture initiative.

It detailed that three institutions, including the newly upgraded Rufus Giwa University, would host the programme, which aims to provide practical farming experience for young people and agriculture students.

“Each of the three institutions will benefit not only from student training but also from a share of the proceeds from agricultural operations,” the statement added.

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the transformation of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, into a University of Agriculture and Agribusiness. This decision follows a review of the previous administration’s plan to upgrade the institution into a University of Management Science and Technology.

In a statement on Wednesday, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, highlighted that the new university would play a key role in the state’s agricultural and food security initiatives. A committee will be formed to work out the details of the conversion, and the governor reassured students and staff that the transition would not negatively impact them.

The statement also mentioned that the governor had approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the state government and a private investor for a N15 billion youth-oriented agricultural program.
