Niger delta transformative projects _ Ex agitators hails NDDC
Ex-agitators in the Niger Delta and civil society organizations have commended the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) under Dr. Samuel Ogbuku’s leadership for successfully implementing projects that have greatly enhanced the lives of people in the region.
The groups specifically highlighted the positive effects of the solar-powered streetlights, noting that they have helped decrease crime rates and revitalized nightlife across the nine states of the Niger Delta.
Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt on Monday following a meeting of the First Phase Ex-Agitators, Secretary-General Nature Dumale expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for appointing what he called a forward-thinking board to lead the NDDC.

The meeting was organized by the National Chairman of the First Phase Ex-Agitators and King of Ofunama Kingdom, His Royal Highness Henry Binidodogha, also known as Egbeme One.
Dumale said, “The purpose of the meeting was to review the operations of the NDDC under Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, and we all agreed to pass a vote of confidence in his leadership and the board.”
He added, “We are particularly pleased with the Light-Up Niger Delta project, which has had a significant impact on our communities. The streetlights have helped reduce crime, revitalized nightlife, and improved safety for residents, especially the elderly, who are benefiting from these efforts.”
The ex-agitators lauded the NDDC’s transparency and accountability under Ogbuku’s leadership and called on stakeholders in the region to support the commission’s initiatives.
Dumale stated, “We urge critical stakeholders, opinion leaders, politicians, and ethnic groups to support this administration. With the planned solar water project, we are hopeful that access to potable water, a longstanding issue in the Niger Delta, will soon be a reality. This project will also help reduce waterborne diseases.”
He emphasized that the ex-agitators are no longer interested in violent agitation and called on the Federal Government to ignore those trying to disrupt the progress of the NDDC.
Peter Freeborn, spokesperson for the Serving and Leading Without Bitterness Initiative, praised the quality of the solar streetlights and acknowledged the commission’s significant contributions.
Dumale said, “Insecurity is gradually decreasing due to the Light-Up Niger Delta project. With the prospects of potable water and better infrastructure, the region is moving toward lasting peace and development.”
