Ondo state government committed to sports development
The Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to fostering sports development, particularly at the grassroots level. This statement was made during the presentation of the overall trophy and medals won by the Ondo Team, which secured first place among the 36 states and the FCT at the inaugural Basic Education School Sports (BESS) Competition in Abuja. The team earned a total of 31 medals, including nine gold, 15 silver, and seven bronze.
Governor Aiyedatiwa praised the team, calling them “Lucky boys and girls” and hailed their achievement as a proud moment for Ondo State. He expressed great joy over their success and acknowledged their role in making history by winning the first edition of the competition. He also commended the Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board (ODSUBEB) management, led by Rt. Hon. Victor Olabimtan, for their contributions to the team’s victory.

Highlighting the significance of sports in a child’s development, the Governor urged educators and administrators to focus on both the intellectual and physical growth of students. He assured that the state government would recognize and reward the award-winning team and their coaches in due course.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Hon. Laolu Akindolire, credited the pupils’ success to the supportive environment created by the Ondo State Government, emphasizing the Governor’s commitment to the development of education in the state. Olabimtan, the ODSUBEB chairman, also noted the team’s earlier triumph in the South-West regional competition in Ado-Ekiti.
