Agitators raise threats over looming halt in allocations
Grassroots organization in the Niger Delta, the Niger Delta Development Force (NDDF), has threatened to disrupt oil operations if courts decide to seize allocations meant for the 23 local government councils in Rivers State. The group warned that any ruling against these councils, especially from Abuja, would prompt them to take drastic actions, including bombing and shutting down oil facilities in the region.
Spokesman Justin Alabraba stated that any such judgment would lead to severe destruction of key oil infrastructure. He emphasized that the Federal Government should avoid reigniting the unrest that previous administrations worked hard to quell through the amnesty program. Alabraba criticized Nyesom Wike for allegedly using federal power to destabilize Rivers State and warned that any destabilization efforts would have widespread repercussions across the Niger Delta.
The group expressed concern over an impending judgment from Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, which is rumored to involve halting allocations to the local governments. They urged judges to consider the potential consequences of their decisions, asserting that the future of oil and gas production in the region hangs in the balance.
