Police nabs serial killer linked with death of university student
On Thursday, the Nigeria Police Force confirmed the arrest of 23-year-old Ayomide Adeleye in connection with the murder of Idowu Christianah. Adeleye, a 200-level Philosophy student at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) in Ogun State, is accused of abducting Christianah, a 300-level student from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), along the Ikorodu-Yaba Road in Lagos in August.
The arrest followed online outcry, with many using the hashtag #JusticeForChristianah on X to demand the suspect’s immediate prosecution. Some users also suggested Adeleye might be linked to the deaths of his ex-girlfriend in 2018 and his sister in 2020, under similar circumstances.
Lagos State Police Spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the arrest on X, stating that Adeleye was handed over by the Nigerian Army on the afternoon of September 5, 2024. The police noted that investigations are ongoing.
