The Rivers State Government has denied claims that Governor Siminialayi Fubara proposed an N80,000 minimum wage for civil servants. The denial came in response to reports circulating on social media suggesting the governor had made such a proposal.

In a statement issued Friday, Nelson Chukwudi, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, labeled the reports as false. He clarified that the state government has not yet determined the new minimum wage and will announce its decision at a later date.

“The attention of the Rivers State Government has been drawn to claims circulating in online media that His Excellency, the Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, has proposed to pay a new minimum wage of N80,000 for civil servants in the state and local government areas,” Chukwudi said. “It is important to state that the unverified claims being circulated by Newsweekng.com, and titled: ‘Breaking News: Governor Fubara Proposes N80,000 minimum wage’ is totally false and misleading.”

Chukwudi urged the public and civil servants to disregard these false claims. He assured that the Rivers State Government will communicate its official stance on the minimum wage in due course.
