Ondo State Security Network Agency Faces Welfare Controversy
The Ondo State Security Network Agency, commonly known as Amotekun Corps, is facing significant internal strife due to inadequate welfare provisions and the absence of formal employment letters for its operatives. Reports from within the corps reveal that despite their demanding roles, which often require extended periods in the forest, operatives have not been granted allowances or proper engagement terms.
Several operatives, speaking anonymously, have accused the leadership of the corps of insincerity and secrecy regarding personnel numbers, which they believe is a tactic to misappropriate funds. The discontent has been exacerbated by the lack of support during the recent fuel subsidy crisis, leaving many operatives struggling to support their families.
Despite a reported expenditure of N674 million in the first quarter of 2024 and substantial funding in previous years, operatives claim they have not seen commensurate benefits. In response, the corps’ leadership has acknowledged the unique recruitment process of the paramilitary organization and is working towards harmonizing the salary scale with other southwestern states.
