Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week official leave following approval by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, marking his first leave since assuming office on May 29, 2023.
The Presidency disclosed that the leave, which began on Thursday, August 6, 2026, will provide the Vice President with an opportunity for study, reflection and intellectual renewal as he prepares for the next phase of his responsibilities in government.
According to a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, the period will also enable Shettima to review ongoing government programmes and deepen his understanding of emerging national and global policy issues in support of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Presidency noted that since taking office, the Vice President has remained actively involved in the coordination and supervision of key government initiatives, including economic development, food security, humanitarian affairs, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation.
Shettima also serves as Chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC), where he works with state governors, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and other senior government officials on policies aimed at strengthening the nation’s economy and improving the welfare of Nigerians.
Beyond his domestic responsibilities, the Vice President has represented President Tinubu at several regional and international engagements, promoting Nigeria’s interests in economic integration, investment, peace and security, climate action and sustainable development.
The Presidency reaffirmed that Shettima remains committed to supporting President Tinubu’s administration and advancing its development agenda. It added that the Vice President is expected to resume his official duties at the end of the two-week leave with renewed energy and dedication to national service.
