The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.
Announcing the release during a press briefing in Lagos, the Head of the WAEC National Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, disclosed that the results are now available for candidates to access online.
According to WAEC, 1,959,668 candidates from 24,207 schools across Nigeria, Benin Republic, Côte d’Ivoire and Equatorial Guinea registered for the examination, while 1,950,726 candidates eventually sat for the examination.
The council revealed that 1,200,514 candidates, representing 61.54 percent, obtained at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
It also stated that 1,687,378 candidates, representing 86.50 percent, secured at least five credits, with or without English Language and Mathematics.
WAEC noted that the percentage of candidates who obtained five credits, including English Language and Mathematics, declined by 1.42 percentage points compared to the 2025 examination.
Among the successful candidates who obtained the minimum five credits, including English and Mathematics, 558,883 were male, while 641,631 were female.
The examination body further disclosed that 1,834,695 candidates, representing 94.05 percent, have had their results fully processed and released.
However, the results of 116,031 candidates (5.95 percent) are still being processed and will be released after the completion of necessary verification procedures.
WAEC also announced that the results of 167,486 candidates, representing 8.59 percent of those who sat for the examination, have been withheld over allegations of examination malpractice. The council stated that investigations into the reported cases are ongoing and assured affected candidates that appropriate decisions would be communicated after the review process.
How to check the 2026 WAEC result
Candidates can check their results by following these steps:
1. Visit the official WAEC website to generate a Result Checker PIN and Serial Number.
2. Visit the WAEC Result Checker portal.
3. Select 2026 WASSCE for School Candidates.
4. Enter your Examination Number.
5. Enter the generated PIN and Serial Number.
6. Click Submit to view your result.
WAEC also advised candidates who do not have their Result Checker PIN or Serial Number to generate them using the National Identification Number (NIN) provided during registration.
In addition, candidates can download their WAEC Digital Identity Card through the official WAEC platform for future reference.
