Senators Are The Ones Giving Tinubu Power To Do Evil – Aisha Yesufu
Human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, has criticised members of the Nigerian Senate, accusing them of enabling actions by President Bola Tinubu which she believes are harmful to the country.
Yesufu made the remarks in a post shared on her verified š account on Friday.
She argued that senators should not portray themselves as helpless in the face of Nigeriaās security and governance challenges, insisting that they are part of the system that empowers the President through legislative support and oversight.
Her reaction followed comments by the senator representing Kebbi South Senatorial District, Garba Maidoki, who recently appealed to Nigerians for support over continued bandit attacks and killings in his constituency.
Responding to the senatorās concerns, Yesufu maintained that lawmakers possess constitutional authority and influence over decisions at the national level and therefore cannot distance themselves from the outcomes of governance.
According to her, members of the National Assembly bear responsibility for approving policies and supporting actions of the executive arm of government.
She argued that elected lawmakers should be held accountable for the direction of governance under the current administration.
In her words:
āSenators should stop infantilizing themselves! They are not victims. They are enablers of whatever evil Tinubu is carrying out in this country.
āThey are the ones giving him the power to do all the shenanigans he is currently doing.ā
The remarks have added to ongoing public debates around accountability, governance and the role of the legislature in addressing the countryās political and security challenges.
