Correctional Service Takes Custody Of Sowore, Moves Him To Kuje Correctional Centre
Officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) on Monday took custody of activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, at the Federal High Court in Abuja and transferred him to the Kuje Correctional Centre.
According to reports, correctional officials arrived at the court premises in a prison transport vehicle and formally received Sowore from operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) before conveying him to the facility.
Sowore was brought out at about 2:10 p.m. from an undisclosed location within the court premises under DSS escort.
The activist appeared calm and addressed supporters gathered at the court, encouraging them to remain committed to their demand for social change and improved governance.
He also informed supporters that proceedings in his case would continue on Wednesday when he is expected to return to court.
Reacting to his transfer in a prison transport vehicle, Sowore questioned the practice and argued that public officials accused of financial misconduct are often moved under different conditions.
He stated that he would have preferred to be transported in a Hilux vehicle rather than in the prison van.
The AAC presidential candidate reiterated his commitment to activism and maintaining pressure for accountability in governance.
According to him, he would continue to speak against actions and policies he believes threaten the future of younger generations and the development of the country.
Further proceedings in the matter are expected to continue at the Federal High Court on Wednesday.
