Senate President Godswill Akpabio has described the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, as a “miracle worker” and commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing him to oversee the nation’s capital.
Akpabio made the remarks on Thursday while representing President Tinubu at the commissioning of the newly constructed Airport Road (Bill Clinton Drive) to Tungan Madaki Community as part of activities marking the administration’s third anniversary.
Speaking during the event, the Senate President praised the pace of infrastructure delivery under the FCT administration and noted that the project reflected a commitment to development and improved connectivity.
He also expressed confidence in the durability of the newly completed road, citing his previous experience with the construction company involved in the project.
According to Akpabio, the company had executed projects during his tenure as governor that remained in good condition years after completion.
“I come from a community, so I know what it means to stay for 37 or 40 years without a road. Coincidentally, the company that constructed this road worked with me for eight years during my administration as governor.
“One of the roads they constructed was commissioned about 15 years ago and till today there is no pothole. When I saw they handled this road, I became confident that, particularly with the terrain in the FCT, we could be looking at decades without potholes,” he said.
Akpabio commended the FCT administration for engaging quality contractors and maintaining focus on infrastructure delivery.
Representing President Tinubu, he also praised the President’s leadership style and described him as focused on delivering development despite criticisms.
He further noted that Wike had transferred the style of governance and infrastructure development associated with his tenure as Governor of Rivers State to the Federal Capital Territory.
According to Akpabio, the scale of project commissioning under the FCT administration is unprecedented.
“This is the first time in Nigeria’s history that a minister would schedule project commissioning activities for 30 days within a month.
“I appreciate President Tinubu for bringing this miracle worker and Mr Project to the FCT,” he stated.
The commissioning formed part of a series of projects unveiled to commemorate the administration’s third year in office.
