Palace Under Siege: Gunmen Kidnap Owo Monarch, Shoot Wife

The traditional ruler of Odo-Oriya Community in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, Chief Adeniyi Adelana, has been abducted by suspected armed kidnappers who invaded his residence on Saturday night.

According to reports, about six armed men stormed the monarch’s palace under the cover of darkness and forcefully whisked the 60-year-old ruler away into a nearby forest.

The monarch’s wife was reportedly shot and injured during the attack while attempting to resist the assailants. She is said to be receiving medical attention.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed that the attack occurred at about 8:05 p.m. on Saturday.

The police spokesman stated that security operatives immediately launched a search-and-rescue operation, combing surrounding forests and suspected criminal hideouts in an effort to secure the safe release of the monarch and arrest those responsible for the abduction.

The incident has heightened concerns over insecurity in parts of Ondo State, with residents calling on security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the traditional ruler and bring the perpetrators to justice.

As of the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of Chief Adelana remain unknown, while investigations and rescue operations are ongoing.
