Veteran Media Professional Agbiki Clinches Bayelsa APC Senate Ticket
High Chief Fidelis Agbiki has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bayelsa West Senatorial District primary election, securing the party’s ticket ahead of the forthcoming senatorial contest.
The outcome of the primary has sparked reactions from party members, supporters, and political stakeholders across Bayelsa West, many of whom described Agbiki’s emergence as a reflection of his years of public service, administrative experience, and leadership credentials.
Agbiki, a native of Isampou community in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, is widely known in media and political circles as a veteran broadcaster, legal practitioner, and administrator.
Before venturing into law and corporate service, he built a distinguished career with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), where he rose through the ranks to become a Controller.
He also served as Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to several military administrators in the old Rivers State and later Bayelsa State, earning recognition for his communication expertise and strategic media management.
Political observers say his transition from journalism into governance and corporate leadership helped shape his reputation as a versatile public figure.
After his years in government service, Agbiki joined the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), where he reportedly brought his experience in media relations and legal practice into the private sector.
Reacting to his emergence, some APC stakeholders described him as “a tested administrator with vast experience in public communication and leadership.”
A party supporter in Ekeremor, who spoke shortly after the primary, said, “High Chief Agbiki’s emergence is not a surprise to many of us. He has served in different capacities over the years and has consistently demonstrated competence and maturity in leadership.”
Another APC chieftain noted that Agbiki’s background in media, law, and traditional leadership positions him as a strong voice for Bayelsa West.
Beyond politics and professional service, Agbiki also played a significant traditional role when he was appointed Regent of the Tarakiri Kingdom following the death of His Royal Majesty, King Richardford Orukaribai Koroye, in 2022.
He served in that capacity during the transition period leading to the installation of the current Pere of the kingdom, His Royal Majesty, King (Dr.) Seiyifa Koroye.
Meanwhile, congratulatory messages have continued to pour in from supporters and associates, many expressing optimism that his experience and leadership qualities would strengthen representation for Bayelsa West if elected into the Senate.
