2027 Election: APC Waives Screening For President Tinubu
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has approved the waiver of screening requirements for Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the party’s presidential primaries for the 2027 general elections.
The resolution was reached during the APC’s 188th NWC meeting, where the committee declared President Tinubu as duly screened, eliminating the need for him to appear before a screening panel.
According to a statement signed by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the decision was taken in line with provisions of the party’s constitution, specifically Article 13.4 (xiii) and (xiv), which empower the NWC to organise primaries and grant waivers in special circumstances.
The party explained that the waiver was based on Tinubu’s status as the incumbent President and leader of the APC, as well as the widespread endorsements he has received across party structures.
These endorsements include backing from the Progressive Governors Forum, members of the National Assembly, and other party stakeholders during the APC National Summit and subsequent engagements.
The NWC stated that requiring the President to undergo another screening process would be unnecessary, noting that he had already been screened and cleared ahead of the 2022 presidential primaries.
The committee described a fresh screening as “redundant and unnecessary” given his previous clearance and current position within the party.
The decision effectively clears President Tinubu to contest in the APC presidential primaries without additional procedural hurdles, further consolidating his position within the party as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
