A remarkable academic milestone was recorded at Delta State University as High Chief Sheriff Mulade and his son, David Sheriff Mulade, celebrated a rare father-son achievement during the institution’s 18th Convocation Ceremony.
Chief Mulade, Founder of the Centre for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ) and newly elected National Treasurer of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in International Relations. His 24-year-old son, David, also earned a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Mass Communication.
The historic moment unfolded on Saturday, May 2, 2026, during the university’s convocation for the 2024/2025 academic session, drawing admiration from attendees and the wider academic community.
Speaking shortly after the ceremony, David, a practicing journalist with GbaramatuVoice, expressed gratitude to his father for his unwavering support and mentorship.
“I am grateful to my father for his constant support and example. This achievement is a continuation of the foundation he has laid, and it will further strengthen my career in journalism and media practice,” he said.
Observers have described the dual accomplishment as a rare and inspiring feat, particularly within the Gbaramatu Kingdom, where it is being hailed as unprecedented.
Chief Mulade, widely respected for his advocacy in environmental justice and peacebuilding across the Niger Delta, said the achievement reflects his lifelong commitment to education and service.
The father-son success story has since been celebrated as a powerful symbol of excellence, discipline, and the enduring value of education in shaping future generations.
