According to Legit.ng (Ezra Ukanwa), the Federal Government has filed a 13-count charge before the Federal High Court in Abuja against a retired Major General, a retired Naval Captain, a serving police inspector, and other individuals accused of allegedly plotting to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The report stated that the defendants are facing allegations bordering on treason and terrorism-related offences linked to attempts to destabilise the country.

It further noted that the case follows earlier military investigations and arrests of about 16 officers suspected to be connected to the alleged plot, while internal probes by the Defence Headquarters reportedly uncovered involvement of some personnel.

The Defence Headquarters had earlier confirmed disciplinary investigations into what it described as a coup-related scheme, stressing that affected officers would face appropriate military justice procedures.

Meanwhile, families of the detained officers have continued to demand transparency, calling for open trials and access to their relatives. Some relatives also staged protests in Abuja, urging authorities to expedite legal proceedings.

The case is now set to proceed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, marking the most formal stage of prosecution in the ongoing controversy, which continues to attract national attention.
