Alleged Assassination Plot: Omoyele Sowore Raises Alarm Over Targeted Intimidation Campaign
Former presidential candidate and activist, Omoyele Sowore, has raised fresh concerns over his safety following claims of an alleged assassination plot uncovered by fellow activist, Chizorom Harrison Ofoegbu.
In a statement shared via his social media platform, Sowore described the alleged plot as part of a broader and persistent pattern of intimidation aimed at silencing dissenting voices in Nigeria.
According to him, the revelation is not an isolated incident but a continuation of what he believes to be deliberate efforts by powerful actors to suppress individuals who challenge injustice and speak against perceived oppression.
Sowore recalled several past incidents he claims were attempts on his life, including alleged attacks involving security operatives. He also referenced the 2021 killing of his brother, Felix Olajide Sowore, describing it as part of a troubling sequence of events surrounding his activism.
He maintained that such threats have evolved over time, extending beyond him to those within his circle, in what he described as calculated attempts to force him into silence.
“The threats are neither random nor accidental; they are deliberate and sustained,” Sowore stated, adding that the latest claims by Ofoegbu reinforce his long-held position that there is an organised effort to intimidate outspoken Nigerians.
While noting that specific details of the alleged plot were not directly communicated to him, Sowore insisted that the pattern of threats remains consistent and credible.
Despite the development, he reaffirmed his commitment to activism, declaring that ongoing efforts to intimidate him would not deter his advocacy for justice and societal reform.
The allegations have yet to receive an official response from security agencies as of the time of this report.
