Senator Kwankwaso Dumps NNPP, Officially Joins ADC In Kano
Former Kano State Governor and presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a significant shift in Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
Kwankwaso formally registered as a member of the party on Monday at his residence in Kano, where he received his membership card at Gidan Kwankwasiyya, located along Miller Road in the Bompai area.
The event attracted several prominent political figures, including David Mark, Aminu Tambuwal, Rotimi Amaechi, Peter Obi, Dino Melaye, and John Odigie-Oyegun, underscoring the political significance of the defection.
The development comes shortly after Kwankwaso announced his resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), where he previously served as the party’s national leader and presidential candidate in the 2023 general election.
In a statement personally signed by him, Kwankwaso explained that his decision to leave the NNPP was influenced by evolving political realities in the country, which he said necessitated a new direction.
Kwankwaso expressed appreciation for the opportunity to lead the NNPP and represent the party at the presidential level, while signalling readiness to pursue a fresh political path under the ADC platform.
His defection is expected to further strengthen the ADC’s coalition-building efforts as political alignments continue to take shape ahead of the next general elections.
Political observers say the move could significantly impact the dynamics of opposition politics in Nigeria, especially with the growing involvement of key national figures in the ADC.
