ADC Slams Tinubu Over Maiduguri Bombings, Demands Immediate Return To Nigeria
The African Democratic Congress has strongly condemned the recent bomb explosions in Maiduguri, Borno State, which reportedly left at least 23 people dead and several others injured.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party expressed sympathy with victims and their families, while raising concerns over the Federal Government’s response to the tragic incident.
The opposition party described the attack as deeply troubling, noting that residents of Maiduguri have endured years of insurgency and violence.
“The African Democratic Congress strongly condemns the bomb blasts that have shaken Maiduguri… Terrorism anywhere in Nigeria is an attack on all Nigerians,” the statement read.
The party also commended security personnel and emergency responders for their efforts in assisting victims and restoring calm after the explosions.
The ADC warned that the incident highlights ongoing security challenges across Nigeria, particularly in regions that had recently begun to experience relative peace.
It noted that Maiduguri, once heavily affected by insurgency, had shown signs of stability in recent years, making the latest attack a major setback.
The party criticised what it described as a lack of leadership focus during a period of national crisis, alleging that key government officials were distracted by political activities.
It specifically called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to return to the country immediately and take charge of the security situation.
“Moments like this demand the full and undivided attention of the nation’s leadership,” the statement noted, expressing concern that the President was outside the country at the time of the attack.
The ADC emphasised that the protection of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of any government and should not be overshadowed by political considerations.
The party also urged the government to take greater responsibility for security failures, including providing compensation to families of victims affected by such incidents.
According to the statement, addressing insecurity requires decisive leadership, sustained attention, and a renewed commitment to safeguarding citizens across the country.
