BREAKING: INEC RELEASES TIMETABLE FOR 2027 GENERAL ELECTIONS
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections.
According to details made public on Friday, February 13, 2026, Presidential and National Assembly elections will be held on February 20, 2027, while Governorship and State Assembly elections are scheduled for March 6, 2027.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, announced the timetable at a news conference in Abuja, stating that the commission has finalised preparations for the polls.
Under the schedule, official campaign periods for Presidential and National Assembly elections will run from November 18, 2026, to February 19, 2027. Campaigns for Governorship and State Assembly elections will commence on December 15, 2026, and end on March 5, 2027, exactly 24 hours before election day.
INEC also disclosed that Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) will begin in April 2026 and conclude in January 2027, allowing eligible Nigerians sufficient time to register or update their voter details.
Political parties are expected to conduct their primaries between July 1 and September 30, 2026, and must submit their lists of candidates to the commission between October 1 and October 31, 2026.
The final list of candidates for the 2027 general elections will be published on November 15, 2026, according to the commission.
INEC had earlier indicated that it had completed work on the timetable despite the pending amendment to the Electoral Act before the National Assembly.
Reaffirming the commission’s preparedness, the INEC Chairman stated that the electoral body is ready to conduct the 2027 general elections and all off-cycle polls in line with the new schedule.
