The Obidient Movement has raised alarm over what it described as a plot by former political leaders in Abia State to remove Governor Alex Otti in the 2027 general election.

Addressing journalists on Wednesday, the movement, through its Abia State spokesperson Chibuzor Obiesili and other members, alleged that former governors of the state, led by the Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, are working to deliver Abia State to President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the group, Governor Otti was democratically elected by the people of Abia State and has continued to perform creditably in office, insisting that any attempt to deny him a second term amounts to an affront on the will of the electorate.

The Obidient Movement faulted comments attributed to Senator Kalu, in which he allegedly declared that Governor Otti would not be re-elected, describing such statements as a direct challenge to the decision of Abia voters.

Obiesili said it had come to public knowledge that a meeting was allegedly held involving former governors and commissioners of the state, reportedly convened by Senator Kalu, where plans were discussed to unseat Otti in 2027 and return Abia State to the APC.

“It has come to the public knowledge that a meeting of former governors, alongside their former commissioners, a gathering reportedly engineered by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, resolved to remove Dr Alex Otti in the 2027 general election and win Abia State for the APC and President Tinubu,” Obiesili stated.

The movement further called on Governor Otti to align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the next election cycle.

According to Obiesili, joining the ADC would help consolidate votes and strengthen a united political front, noting that the party now hosts former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and other like-minded politicians.

“We want to use this opportunity to call on Governor Alex Otti to join the ADC, where our leader Mr Peter Obi is, and where other well-meaning Nigerians are, for more united bloc votes that will not be divided,” he added.

The development comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Abia State emerging as a key battleground.
