House of Representatives to Engage Stakeholders, Inaugurate Ad Hoc Committee on FCT CCTV Project

The House of Representatives has announced plans to inaugurate an Ad Hoc Committee and hold a stakeholders’ engagement session to address rising insecurity in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), particularly concerning the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) Project funded through a $460 million Chinese loan.

The engagement aims to obtain verifiable information from all relevant parties regarding the implementation, operational status, and effectiveness of the CCTV project. It will also identify gaps that have hindered its contribution to security across the FCT.

The session is scheduled as follows:

Date: Thursday, November 27, 2025

Time: 2:00 PM

Venue: Conference Room 231, House of Representatives New Building, National Assembly Complex, Three Arms Zone, Abuja

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abass Tajudeen Abbas, PhD, GCON, will serve as the Special Guest of Honour at the event.

Speaking ahead of the inauguration, Chairman of the Ad Hoc Committee, Rep. Donald Kimikanboh Ojogo, highlighted the significance of the assignment:

“This engagement provides an avenue to uncover the facts behind the shortcomings of the CCTV project and assess its impact on security delivery in the FCT. We expect full cooperation from all parties because the safety of citizens cannot be compromised. Our recommendations will be driven by facts and will be directed at restoring efficiency, accountability, and public confidence.”

The House emphasized that the exercise aligns with its constitutional mandate to ensure transparency, safeguard public resources, and protect Nigerian lives. Through diligent scrutiny and open engagement, it seeks to hold all responsible actors accountable and recommend credible measures to improve security outcomes in the FCT and across the nation.
