In a major development that could redefine the immigration experience for foreign women married to Nigerian men, a high-level meeting was held yesterday between the government and Nigerwives, Nigeria — formerly known as the Nigerwives Association.

The meeting, which took place in the official chambers of the hosting government official, was led on the association’s side by Mrs. Christa Udeoju, representing the Nigerwives Nigeria President. At the heart of the discussion was a bold push for a workable roadmap” to address and simplify the complex immigration issues plaguing foreign-born wives of Nigerian citizens.

Speaking after the strategic dialogue, the official declared, Our goal is to create an inclusive and well-integrated system that bridges the gap between national identities and fosters a more cohesive society.”

Describing the initiative as long overdue, the official emphasized a deep commitment to practical reforms that would not only ease immigration pathways but also formally recognize the legal status of Nigerwives and guarantee them access to essential services.

“This is more than a policy reform — it is a declaration that these women are part of our national family. As a stakeholder in governance, I am fully committed to ensuring that their presence in Nigeria is secure, valued, and supported,” the official asserted.

This proactive approach falls squarely in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, a national policy blueprint that champions economic and social empowerment through inclusivity and diversity.

The official concluded with a powerful vision: By working together, we can create a more vibrant and welcoming society that leverages our diversity to drive growth and development.”

The Nigerwives, many of whom have lived in Nigeria for decades while raising Nigerian families, may soon see their long-standing quest for recognition and fair treatment finally bear fruit — and not a moment too soon.
