2027: APC Governors Meet Party Chairman, Move To Address Internal Disputes Ahead Of General Election
Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have held a strategic meeting with the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, as efforts intensify to strengthen internal cohesion and address disputes ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting was convened under the auspices of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), the umbrella body of APC governors, following controversies and concerns that emerged after the party’s nationwide primary elections.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, said discussions focused on party consolidation, electoral performance and preparations for future contests.
According to Uzodimma, the governors reviewed the conduct and outcomes of the recently concluded primaries across the federation, assessed the party’s performance in the Ekiti State governorship election and examined outcomes from recent bye-elections.
Governors from several states attended the meeting, including representatives from Ekiti, Zamfara, Taraba, Lagos, Sokoto, Kano, Kaduna, Gombe, Kebbi, Akwa Ibom and Borno states, among others.
The APC primaries conducted in May had generated reactions from party members in different states over allegations ranging from irregular voting processes to claims of candidate imposition and disputes over delegate lists.
The controversies reportedly contributed to internal tensions within the party and influenced delays in the release of final candidate lists in some affected constituencies.
Addressing concerns arising from the process, Uzodimma stated that the governors agreed to sustain consultations with the national leadership of the party to promote reconciliation and strengthen internal unity.
According to him, the governors resolved to harmonise political strategies, engage dissatisfied stakeholders and deepen cooperation ahead of the 2027 elections.
He expressed satisfaction with the party’s recent electoral performance and described the outcomes as encouraging signs for the ruling party.
“We reviewed the outcome of the primaries across the federation, the Ekiti governorship election and the various bye-elections where our party performed impressively,” Uzodimma stated.
“We have resolved to work towards solving the challenges facing our democratic space and ensuring that our people are better off,” he added.
The Imo State Governor further explained that discussions extended beyond electoral considerations and included governance priorities, democratic growth and measures aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians under APC administrations.
Political observers believe the meeting reflects growing efforts within the ruling party to maintain internal stability and present a united front ahead of the next general election cycle.
