In a bold and unprecedented move, Wema Bank handed over its top leadership seat to 12-year-old Chiderije Mbah, appointing her as Managing Director/CEO for a day in celebration of Children’s Day and the bank’s 80th anniversary.

The symbolic but powerful appointment on May 27, 2025, was part of the bank’s #OneDayWemaMDCEO campaign—an initiative designed to redefine leadership, spark imagination, and underscore the importance of early financial education among Nigerian children.

Chiderije earned her spot at the helm after emerging winner of a nationwide social media challenge. Her entry? A captivating animated short film that made a compelling case for making finance fun, friendly, and accessible to kids.

Welcoming her to the executive suite, Wema Bank’s real-life MD/CEO, Mr. Moruf Oseni, described the moment as “nothing short of inspirational.”

Watching Chiderije step into this role with confidence and creativity was a reminder that the future is not just coming, it’s already here,” Oseni said.

“Her vision proves that leadership, innovation, and fresh ideas aren’t limited by age.”

During her one-day tenure, the young CEO participated in high-level meetings, shared insights on youth engagement, and presented her ideas on how banks can better serve young Nigerians.

Wema Bank’s campaign doesn’t just celebrate a symbolic gesture, it challenges corporate Nigeria to rethink leadership and inclusivity, placing youth empowerment at the forefront of national discourse.

Chiderije’s appointment is already making waves, serving as a trailblazing model for corporate innovation, youth inclusion, and bold brand storytelling.
