Work from Home, Ekiti state government tells workers
Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has introduced a work-from-home policy for state civil servants to alleviate the financial impact of the recent fuel price increase by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd. (NNPCL), which raised petrol prices from N617 to N897.
The policy aims to mitigate the economic strain on workers due to the sharp rise in commodity and transportation costs, which has diminished consumer purchasing power. Starting Monday, September 9, 2024, civil servants will follow a new work-from-home schedule based on their job levels: employees in levels 01-07 will work remotely three days a week, those in levels 08-12 two days a week, and those in levels 13-17 once a week.
Essential workers, including teachers, healthcare professionals, and security personnel, are excluded from this arrangement. Each Ministry, Department, and Agency (MDA) must develop a practical schedule to ensure service delivery remains unaffected. The arrangement will be in place for two months and will be reviewed periodically based on the situation.
This new policy does not replace existing state government measures such as the monthly wage award for workers and pensioners and the free bus service for workers and students.
