WAEC Announces 2026 Wassce Timetable, Exams To Commence April 21
The West African Examinations Council has officially released the timetable for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates, with examinations scheduled to begin on April 21 and conclude on June 19, 2026.
According to the council, the examination will commence with practical planning sessions in selected subjects, including Foods and Nutrition and Home Management, marking the start of the nationwide exercise.
WAEC stated that the examination will be conducted simultaneously across its member countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and The Gambia.
The WASSCE remains a crucial academic milestone for secondary school students, serving as a key requirement for admission into universities and other tertiary institutions. The examination covers core subjects such as English Language and Mathematics, alongside a wide range of electives across sciences, arts, humanities, and technical disciplines.
Meanwhile, the council recently released results for the 2026 First Series Computer-Based WASSCE for private candidates. The examination, conducted between January 28 and February 14, recorded 10,523 registered candidates, representing an 11.49 per cent increase compared to 2025 figures.
Out of this number, 10,480 candidates sat for the examination across 166 centres nationwide. WAEC disclosed that 8,418 candidates, representing 80.32 per cent, have had their results fully released, while 19.68 per cent are still being processed due to issues linked to candidates.
The council also highlighted its inclusive approach, noting that 43 candidates with special needs participated in the examination, with adequate support provided to ensure a smooth process.
WAEC reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining examination standards and ensuring a credible assessment process for all candidates across the region.
