A student from the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences (CIS) has reportedly passed away, though his identity has yet to be confirmed.

Sources indicate that he was a Mass Communication student with an impressive cumulative grade point average of 4.5 before his untimely death.

The tragic incident occurred at his private residence in the Oke-Odo area of Tanke, Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.

University sources suggest that financial hardship was the primary reason for his suicide. The student had lost his father a few years ago, leaving his mother, a retired teacher, solely responsible for his education.

His financial struggles reportedly worsened after he resumed school last year. In response, some of his colleagues raised funds to help pay his tuition and buy food for him.

Despite their support, he allegedly consumed a poisonous substance over the weekend while his roommate was away attending lectures. He left behind a note expressing his inability to continue due to financial difficulties.

The incident was discovered when his roommate returned and raised the alarm.

A senior university official, who requested anonymity, confirmed the incident to journalists in Ilorin on Tuesday. He described the student’s death as shocking and said it had left both the university and the student community in mourning.
