A senior government source in Nigeria has disclosed that the airstrikes reportedly carried out by the United States during the administration of President Donald Trump were largely coordinated through the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), led by Nuhu Ribadu.

The source said intelligence units within the NSA’s office collaborated closely with the U.S. military, particularly the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), to locate and neutralise terrorist elements linked to ISIS.

However, details regarding the number of targets hit or the overall scale of the operation have not been made public.

It was confirmed that an explosion occurred near Jibo village in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State. As at the time of this report, independent sources had yet to verify whether there were casualties from the incident.

In a related development, AFRICOM announced via its social media platforms that it had conducted strikes on terrorist hideouts in northwestern Nigeria. The command initially misspelled Sokoto as “Soboto” in its statement, an error that was subsequently corrected.

Authorities have yet to release further information on Nigeria’s level of involvement, the full extent of the joint operation, or any potential impact on civilians.
