For the upcoming November 16 election in Ondo state, the Youth-led Electoral Reform Project (YERP-Naija), part of the New Generation Girls and Women Development Initiative (NIGAWD), has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to transmit election results online at each stage. This measure is aimed at reducing electoral issues and improving the integrity of the electoral process.

The Ondo state coordinator of YERP-Naija emphasized that this approach would enhance transparency and ensure that elections are conducted fairly. During a visit to the Ondo state chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) at the NUJ Press Centre in Akure, the coordinator highlighted the importance of a peaceful election and the need for public participation.

The coordinator also called on youths to reject vote trading, noting that such unethical practices damage the democratic process. NIGAWD’s YERP Southwest advocacy project aims to engage multiple stakeholders and advocate for electoral reforms based on lessons from the 2023 elections, encouraging active youth participation in the upcoming governorship election.

The coordinator requested the media’s support in promoting the project’s recommendations to national and state assembly members, urging journalists to use their platforms to publicize these recommendations.

Leke Adegbite, the chairman of Ondo NUJ, praised the initiative and assured the media’s support for a smooth and fair governorship election in Ondo state.
