Tompolo’s Tantita Urges Niger Delta Communities to Embrace Carbon Capture for Sustainable Growth

Tantita Security Services Limited has called on communities in the Niger Delta to transition from crude oil extraction to carbon capture technology for sustainable wealth generation. This move, according to Capt. Warredi Enisuoh, Executive Director of Operations and Technical at Tantita, offers a safer and more environmentally friendly alternative to oil extraction.

Speaking at the Pan-Ijaw Summit held in Yenagoa on Friday, Capt. Enisuoh urged local communities to harness their vast vegetation resources, such as mangroves and trees, for carbon capture initiatives. He emphasized that this shift could mitigate the region’s socio-economic challenges while contributing to global efforts to reduce carbon emissions.

“You cannot separate socio-economic issues from security challenges. We are here to promote carbon emissions reduction as a viable solution. Our region is rich in trees, which can generate significant income,” Enisuoh said.

He noted that international companies are eager to partner with the Niger Delta for green energy projects that foster industrial development without exacerbating carbon emissions or global warming. Such collaborations would enhance public health and economic prospects.

Highlighting the environmental potential of the region, Enisuoh explained that a single tree can absorb approximately 80 kilograms of CO2 annually. This translates into significant financial opportunities for communities, who could profit from carbon credits while preserving the ecosystem for farming and fishing.

Capt. Enisuoh further stressed that the adoption of carbon capture technology could help curb pipeline vandalism, providing a sustainable economic alternative. The Niger Delta’s vegetation, he added, holds the key to reversing environmental degradation and fostering long-term economic stability.

Since Tantita began its operations in the region, crude production has reportedly improved, as confirmed by available statistics. The company believes that by shifting focus from oil extraction to carbon capture, the region could witness further economic and environmental growth.
