Tinubu renews NSCDC CG tenure for another five years
President Bola Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Ahmed Abubakar Audi as Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for another five-year tenure, effective Friday, February 27.
Audi was initially appointed in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari. His first term concluded last Friday, coinciding with his participation in events marking World Civil Defence Day at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja.
According to a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Audi is expected to resume duties on Monday with a renewed mandate.
The President tasked Audi with strengthening the corps’ role in national security, particularly as the police refocus on their core responsibility of safeguarding citizens from banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.
Born on September 30, 1967, in Laminga Town, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Audi began his education in the state before earning a Teachers’ Grade II Certificate from Teachers’ College, Jengre, Plateau State, in 1987.
He later obtained a Nigeria Certificate in Education from the College of Education, Akwanga, in 1992, and a bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education from Ahmadu Bello University in 1995.
Audi earned a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Calabar in 2001, a PhD in Public Administration from Nasarawa State University in 2014, and a Master’s in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from Ahmadu Bello University in 2019.
He joined the NSCDC as a volunteer in November 1996 and, after completing basic officer training in 1997, was posted as a Divisional Officer in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Over the years, he served in several state commands and, in 2007, rose to the rank of Commandant of the Corps before being deployed to the office of the Commandant-General at the National Headquarters in Abuja.
