Tinubu Nominates New Electoral commissioners, await senate approval

President Bola Tinubu has nominated two individuals for positions within the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He has proposed Saseyi Ibiyemi, a lawyer, as a resident electoral commissioner representing Ondo State, pending Senate confirmation. If approved, Ibiyemi will succeed ‘Niyi Ijalaye, who passed away in August while serving as the resident electoral commissioner in Ogun State. Ibiyemi, 58, is currently INEC’s Administrative Secretary in Lagos State. She holds a law degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and a Master’s in Election Management from Bingham University in Nasarawa State.

In addition, Tinubu has nominated Abdulrazak Tukur, 59, as a National Commissioner for INEC, representing the North West. Tukur holds a Bachelor of Arts from Bayero University, a postgraduate diploma in Economics from Bradford University, and a Master of Arts from Leeds University in the UK. He has worked with INEC since 1999, starting as an assistant chief administrative officer and later serving as the Director of Electoral Operations and Logistics until December 2023. Both nominations are subject to Senate approval.
