Tinubu cancels US trip, visits flood victims and IDP camps
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently canceled his planned visit to the United States to stand in solidarity with the people of Maiduguri and Borno State following severe flooding that disrupted local commerce and daily life. Tinubu announced the establishment of a relief fund to aid disaster victims and called on the private sector to contribute.
He acknowledged the flood as a natural disaster but noted that Shehu of Borno, His Royal Highness Abubakar Umar Garba, had requested an investigation into the incident. During his visit, Tinubu also met with Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Zulum and visited an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp, where he assured victims of federal support.
He emphasized the need to address climate change challenges and announced the relief fund as part of his commitment to responding to such disasters.
