The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) erupted into a new political phase on Tuesday as former National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, formally transferred leadership to the newly elected National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, during a decisive handover ceremony in Abuja.

The meeting—an enlarged gathering of the National Working Committee (NWC) and senior stakeholders—quickly transformed into a declaration of war against disloyalty, factionalism, and internal sabotage.

Turaki, delivering what insiders described as the party’s strongest post-2023 message, thundered:
The PDP will never die. This party is bigger than any individual or group of individuals. Those who chose to dine with our opponents while still wearing our colours have been shown the way out.”

He emphasized that the era of indiscipline had ended, announcing:
Today marks the birth of a disciplined, united, and purposeful opposition ready to rescue Nigeria in 2027.”

In an emotionally weighted farewell, Damagum thanked the party for the opportunity to serve and pledged “unbroken loyalty” as the new leadership embarks on sweeping reforms.
We will continue to work with the new team to rebuild and restore the party’s lost ground,” he said.

In a dramatic twist that underscored the party’s new zero-tolerance doctrine, the NWC unveiled Certificates of Expulsion to high-profile members accused of serial anti-party activities, sabotage, and open romance with the ruling APC.

The certificates were issued to:

Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, Minister of the FCT, Samuel Anyanwu, former National Secretary, Kamaldeen Ajibade, SAN, former National Legal Adviser, Umar Bature, former National Organizing Secretary, Abdulrahman Mohammed, former National Vice Chairman, North Central, Ayo Fayose, former Governor of Ekiti State, George Turner, Austine Nwachukwu, former Imo PDP Chairman, Abraham Amah, former Abia PDP Chairman, Others found complicit in gross misconduct,

The expulsions were ratified on November 16, 2025, during the National Convention in Ibadan under Article 59(3) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017).

In a terse statement, the NWC insisted the decision is “final, binding, and irrevocable.”

Party sources said the expulsions represent the biggest disciplinary sweep in the PDP since 1999, intended to end years of internal sabotage that weakened the party’s national strength.

Unveiling his agenda, Turaki said the party is entering an era of restoration and repositioning, anchored on:

Intensive reconciliation of genuine loyalists,

Fearless enforcement of discipline across all ranks,

Rebuilding party structures nationwide,

Forging a united electoral machine capable of defeating the APC in 2027,

Raising his voice to a thunderous applause, Turaki declared:
The PDP is alive, strong, and unstoppable. No amount of money, blackmail, threats, or intimidation will stop our march to victory in 2027.”

With Tuesday’s handover and disciplinary purge, the PDP has signalled a ruthless return to internal order—one that could reshape the political battlefield ahead of the 2027 general election.
