In a dramatic and fiery declaration that has shaken the foundation of Nigeria’s opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has publicly announced his total withdrawal from all prior agreements reached with party stakeholders, declaring that he will now “fight on until justice is attained.”

In a strongly worded statement issued on May 25, 2025, Wike accused key party figures, particularly Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, of betrayal, dishonesty, and deliberate sabotage of reconciliatory efforts aimed at stabilizing the PDP post-2023 elections.

“Since after the 2023 General Election, the PDP has been wantonly swinging from one part of a slippery precipice to another, owing fundamentally to dishonesty and lack of trust amongst its key stakeholders,” Wike stated.

He revealed that multiple peace meetings, including one at the Lagos G5 gathering and another expanded negotiation at Senator Bukola Saraki’s Abuja residence, had produced clear resolutions, but were later shredded by the very individuals who endorsed them.

Among the agreements allegedly violated were: Upholding Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the legitimate National Secretary in line with a Supreme Court judgment, withdrawing all legal hostilities affecting Rivers State, Halting the push for a state of emergency, and adhering strictly to the terms of reconciliation.

However, Wike said these resolutions were crudely violated even before the ink dried,” pointing fingers at Makinde and Mbah for “orchestrating illegitimate moves” within the party structure. He cited how they tried to install Ude Okoye as Secretary and manipulated the National Secretariat to override lawful decisions, leading to the INEC-rejected congress in Jos.

“This is undeniably distasteful, provocative, and annoying, to say the least,” he fumed.

Wike also decried the continued marginalization of his influence despite his unmatched loyalty and contributions to the party since 1998.

“It is on record that none of these persons have done anything close to what I have done to sustain this party… Yet, I have never made any personal demands,” he lamented.

Declaring the finality of his decision, the FCT Minister said: “I have now firmly decided to pull out of all agreements hitherto reached. I have decided to fight on until justice is attained.”

With this searing denunciation, Wike signals a potential escalation of the already fragile crisis within the PDP—one that may further fracture the party ahead of future political battles.
