Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has commended the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, over the reported cancellation of the Monday sit-at-home order across South-East states.

Igboho said the move would help revive socio-economic activities in the region and create a more enabling environment for small and medium-scale enterprises to operate without disruption.

Kanu, who is currently serving a life sentence at the Sokoto Correctional Facility, was reported to have directed the suspension of the Monday sit-at-home directive, which had been observed in parts of the South-East for about five years.

In a statement issued through his counsel, Mr Pelumi Olanjengbesi, Igboho described the reported decision as thoughtful and timely. He urged the IPOB leader to pursue dialogue and mediation with the Federal Government as a means of resolving ongoing tensions.

“I want to urge the IPOB leader to vigorously explore dialogue and mediation with the Federal Government to break the deadlock in his current ordeal,” the statement read in part.

Igboho noted that while self-determination remains a fundamental right, dialogue presents a practical pathway toward peace and stability. He expressed the view that the current administration may be open to negotiation aimed at ensuring peace, security, and shared prosperity for the South-East.

He also appealed to individuals allegedly profiting from unrest in the region to desist, stressing that violence undermines economic growth and social development.

“It is equally imperative to appeal to all those who make profits from the desecration and despoliation of the South-East through violence to desist from such acts in the interest of peace and economic prosperity of the region and the nation,” he added.

The development, if confirmed, is expected to significantly impact daily life and business activities across the South-East region.
