State security: Amotekun to deploy over one thousand agents for security in ondo
To enhance security during the Yuletide season, the Amotekun Corps in Ondo State has deployed 1,200 personnel throughout the state to combat crime and ensure safety. Chief Adetunji Adeleye, the Corps’ Commander, shared this information on Tuesday in Akure while presenting 22 suspects arrested across the state’s 18 local government areas for various offenses. Adeleye mentioned that Amotekun, in collaboration with the security outfits of neighboring Osun and Edo States, would conduct joint patrols to prevent criminal activities.
Adeleye stated, “In preparation for the celebrations, the Ondo State Amotekun Corps has put strong security measures in place by deploying 1,200 personnel to ensure public safety and peaceful celebrations throughout the festive season. Amotekun, together with other security agencies in the state, has developed a strategy to prevent an increase in crime due to the influx of visitors. We are committed to working tirelessly to safeguard lives and property during this period.”

He added that residents would soon notice Amotekun personnel stationed at strategic locations and black spots in all 18 local government areas, which would help deter criminal behavior.
Detailing the arrests made over the last 14 days, Adeleye said there were 19 suspects arrested for various crimes, including three for kidnapping, two for suspected robbery, one for burglary and stealing household items, two for stealing electronics, three for conspiracy, burglary, and theft, and four for breaking into houses. Five suspects were arrested for stealing copper wire, a motorcycle, a sewing machine, and cables. Additionally, there were suspects involved in vandalizing electrical installations, transformers, stealing gasoline pumps, car tires, and battery removals.
The suspects included Sule Gende and Lido for kidnapping; Ibukun Akintan for suspected robbery; Rotimi Bidemi, Ojo, and Ilesanmi for burglary; Nelson Akinwande for motorcycle theft; Omolola Opeyemi for industrial machine theft; Sunday Ego for stealing cables from a medical institution; Patrick Emmanuel for stealing transformer cables; and Ekpa Augustine and Damilola for stealing pumps and other equipment.
Despite the challenges posed by the festive season, Adeleye reassured that Ondo State remains secure.
