Sowore to Police: “Pay My N30m Court-Ordered Damages Without Further Delay”

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has demanded the immediate payment of N30 million in damages awarded to him by a competent court, directing the Nigeria Police Force to comply without hesitation.

In a statement released to the public, Sowore declared: “The Nigeria Police Force must settle the N30m damages claim awarded in my favor promptly without further delay.”

The damages were granted by the court following legal proceedings involving Sowore and the police. While details surrounding the enforcement process were not immediately provided, the activist’s latest remarks signal growing impatience over what he perceives as a delay in executing the judgment.

Sowore emphasized that compliance with court rulings is a constitutional obligation, stressing that law enforcement agencies must lead by example in respecting judicial pronouncements.

Legal practitioners note that once a court of competent jurisdiction delivers judgment, the losing party is required to comply or pursue redress through the appellate courts within the time allowed by law.

As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force had yet to issue an official response to Sowore’s demand.

The development underscores ongoing tensions between the activist and law enforcement authorities, with attention now turning to whether the judgment debt will be settled in the coming days.
