Sowore Accuses DSS Of Fixing Court Date To Frustrate Aba Protest

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of allegedly manipulating a court hearing date in order to prevent him from participating in a planned protest in Aba.

Sowore made the allegation in a post on his 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, explaining that the new trial date coincides with the scheduled #FreeNnamdiKanu protest in Aba, Aba.

According to Sowore, when he and his legal team arrived at the Federal High Court of Nigeria on March 5, 2026, the judge assigned to the case was not present.

He said the court registrar subsequently fixed March 24, 2026 as the next hearing date.

However, he explained that disagreements later arose among the parties involved in the matter, prompting his lawyers to formally request a new date for the hearing.

Sowore claimed the situation changed after the DSS allegedly learned about his plan to travel to Aba to participate in the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

According to him, the hearing date was then deliberately fixed for the same day as the protest.

“The moment the DSS heard we were heading to Aba for the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest, the hearing was suddenly fixed for the same day in order to frustrate me from attending the historic rally,” he said.

Sowore described the development as a deliberate attempt to obstruct his participation in the protest, stating that the intention behind the new court date was obvious.

Despite the situation, the activist maintained that the movement would continue.

“Nothing can defeat an idea whose time has come,” he added.
