Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a Senator representing Kogi Central, has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of victimizing her in the Senate after she rejected his alleged sexual advances. In response to these allegations, Mrs. Unoma Godswill Akpabio, wife of the Senate President, has initiated legal action against Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Mrs. Akpabio filed lawsuits for fundamental rights violations and defamation at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, seeking N250 billion in damages. She denied the allegations, calling Akpoti-Uduaghan’s claims false and accusing her of fabricating stories for personal gain.

At a press conference, Mrs. Akpabio outlined her legal actions, including a fundamental rights suit (Suit No: CV/814/25), filed under Section 34(1)(a) of the 1999 Constitution and Articles 4 and 5 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights. She seeks a court declaration that the allegations made by Akpoti-Uduaghan in the Senate and during an interview on Arise News TV violated her rights. Mrs. Akpabio is also asking for an injunction to prevent further “inciteful, scandalous, and spiteful” statements that have caused her and her children emotional distress, as well as N250 billion in damages.

Additionally, in a separate defamation lawsuit (Suit No: CV/816/25), Mrs. Akpabio argues that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s public accusations harmed her family’s reputation. She demands a formal retraction and apology from Akpoti-Uduaghan, to be published in prominent newspapers, along with N1 billion in punitive damages and an injunction to stop further defamatory statements.

The legal dispute follows intense exchanges in both the Senate and the media, with each side firmly standing by their respective claims.
